SNL Skips Another Week—Here’s When the Show Finally Returns
Saturday night arrives, but Studio 8H is staying dark once again. There is no new episode of Saturday Night Live airing on February 21 and for fans who have been waiting through weeks of anticipation, that pause continues just a little longer.
The reason is simple and it is a big one. NBC’s schedule has been dominated by coverage of the 2026 Winter Olympics in Milan Cortina. With global attention fixed on the closing stretch of the Games, the network has prioritized live Olympic events in the late-night slot where SNL normally airs. That means for the third straight week, the iconic sketch show is off the schedule.
The last original episode aired on January 31, hosted by Alexander Skarsgård with Cardi B as musical guest. Since then, the cast and crew have been on hiatus, allowing the Olympics to take center stage. And while that break may feel long, it is almost over.

SNL will return on February 28 with a brand-new episode. Actor Connor Storrie will make his hosting debut, stepping into one of television’s most demanding comedy roles at a moment when public interest around him is high. Joining him will be Mumford & Sons as the musical guest, marking their fourth appearance on the show. The band just released a new album, which adds even more buzz to the comeback episode.
And the momentum does not stop there. On March 7, Ryan Gosling returns to host for the fourth time, alongside Gorillaz, who will perform on the SNL stage for the first time. That pairing alone is likely to generate major attention, especially given Gosling’s history of viral sketches and the band’s distinctive animated identity led by Damon Albarn.
Why does this matter? Because Saturday Night Live is more than just a late-night comedy show. In its 51st season, it remains a cultural barometer. It reacts to politics, entertainment and global headlines in real time. When it goes quiet, even briefly, viewers notice. And when it comes back, it often does so with energy that reflects everything the world has been talking about during its absence.
So while there is no new episode tonight, the return is set and NBC is lining up back-to-back episodes designed to pull audiences right back in.
Stay with us for continuing updates on SNL’s return, the upcoming hosts and how the post-Olympic television schedule reshapes the late-night landscape.
