Warren Tredrea Faces 4pm Deadline or Bankruptcy Risk After Court Rejects Appeal

The former Port Adelaide premiership captain and long-time sports broadcaster has until 4pm to pay one hundred and forty nine thousand dollars in legal costs owed to Channel Nine. At the centre of this story is Tredrea’s dismissal from Nine in early 2022, after he refused to comply with the network’s COVID-19 vaccination policy. He argued the termination was unfair, claiming the decision ended his broadcasting career and cost him millions in future earnings. The Federal Court disagreed. An appeal was also dismissed and with that loss came a court order requiring Tredrea to cover Nine’s legal costs.

Tredrea also asked for more time to pay, telling the court that further costs were almost impossible to meet. That request was denied. The registrar made it clear there had already been ample opportunity to resolve the matter and no further delay was justified. The deadline stands.
If the money is not paid, or if no agreement is reached with Nine by the cutoff, the consequences could escalate quickly. Creditors may move to start insolvency proceedings, putting Tredrea at risk of bankruptcy. The court has also ordered him to pay additional costs from today’s hearing, adding to the pressure.
