Apple is making a bold move in the laptop market and it could change who buys a Mac for the first time. The company has officially opened pre-orders for the brand new MacBook Neo, a laptop designed to bring the Mac experience to more people at what Apple calls a surprisingly accessible price.

This device is positioned as an entry point into the Mac ecosystem, but Apple is clearly trying to show that “entry level” does not mean basic. The MacBook Neo features a 13-inch Liquid Retina display, delivering sharp resolution, vibrant colors and brightness that reaches up to 500 nits. In simple terms, photos, videos and even everyday browsing should look crisp and vivid on this screen.

Under the hood, the MacBook Neo runs on Apple’s A18 Pro chip. That’s a processor built to handle everyday tasks smoothly, from web browsing and video calls to office work and creative projects. Apple also says the chip is optimized for artificial intelligence tasks, which is becoming a major focus across the tech industry.

And that brings us to one of the biggest talking points — Apple Intelligence. The MacBook Neo is designed with AI features built directly into the system. These tools can help rewrite text, summarize documents, generate custom emoji and even clean up photos by removing unwanted background objects. Importantly, Apple emphasizes that much of this processing happens directly on the device, which the company says helps protect user privacy.

Battery life is another key selling point. Apple says the MacBook Neo can run for up to 16 hours on a single charge. That means it is designed to last through a full day of classes, meetings, or travel without needing to reach for the charger.

The laptop also focuses on portability and everyday convenience. It includes a 1080p FaceTime HD camera for video calls, dual microphones that reduce background noise and speakers that support immersive spatial audio. Connectivity is simple but practical, with two USB-C ports and a headphone jack.

Design is another area where Apple is trying to stand out. The MacBook Neo arrives in four distinct colors — Silver, Blush, Citrus and Indigo — and the enclosure uses recycled aluminum, pushing the product to about 60 percent recycled material by weight. That’s part of Apple’s larger goal to reduce its environmental footprint.

So why does this launch matter? Because Apple appears to be targeting students, new Mac users and people switching from Windows PCs. By lowering the barrier to entry while adding modern AI features, Apple could expand its Mac user base significantly.
