Ellyse Perry Breaks Historic Record to Become Australia's Top Women's Test Run Scorer
History has been rewritten in Australian cricket and once again the name at the center of it all is Ellyse Perry.
At the WACA Ground in Perth, during a gripping day-night Test between Australia and India, Perry delivered a milestone that places her firmly among the greatest players the sport has ever seen. The veteran all-rounder has now become Australia’s highest run-scorer in women’s Test cricket, surpassing a record that had stood for years and was previously held by Karen Rolton.
Perry walked into day two of the match already within touching distance of the landmark. She resumed her innings on 43 runs, calm and composed despite entering the game under an injury cloud after missing the earlier one-day matches in the series with a quad strain. But once she settled in at the crease, the milestone began to look inevitable.
With trademark patience and control, Perry reached her half-century and then crossed the symbolic 1,000-run mark in Test cricket. Moments later, a confident boundary pushed her past Rolton’s record of 1,002 runs, making her the most prolific Australian run scorer in the history of women’s Test matches.

Her innings eventually ended at 76, when she was trapped lbw by India’s Deepti Sharma, falling short of what could have been another Test century. But by that point, the damage had already been done and the record books had already changed.
This achievement carries even more weight when you consider how rarely women’s Test matches are played. Perry reached the milestone in just her 15th Test match and 24 innings. That level of efficiency places her among the elite performers in the global history of women’s Test cricket.
And the milestones do not stop there. Perry has now become the first Australian woman to score more than 1,000 runs in all three international formats. She is also the only Australian woman to combine over 1,000 Test runs with more than 30 Test wickets, a rare all-round record that highlights just how complete a cricketer she truly is.
Even while playing this Test primarily as a batter due to injury, Perry continues to shape matches and influence the game. Her partnership with the rising star Annabel Sutherland helped stabilize Australia’s innings and strengthen their position in the match against India.
Moments like this matter far beyond a single scorecard. They reflect the growth of women’s cricket and the legacy of players who have carried the sport forward for more than a decade.
Ellyse Perry’s name was already written in the history of the game, but now it stands even higher.
