iPhone 17e Unveiled: Double Storage, A19 Power, Same Price Shock
Apple has just made a bold move in the smartphone race and the new iPhone 17e could change the upgrade conversation worldwide.
The tech giant has officially introduced the iPhone 17e as the most affordable member of the iPhone 17 lineup, but make no mistake, this is not a stripped-down device. At its core is the new A19 chip, built on advanced 3-nanometer technology. That means faster performance, smoother multitasking and console-level gaming power in your pocket. Apple says it is up to twice as fast as older models like the iPhone 11 and significantly more efficient, which translates into better battery life throughout the day.
One of the headline features is storage. The base model now starts at 256GB, double the previous generation and four times what users got with the iPhone 12 at launch. And here is the surprise, the starting price remains 99,800 yen in Japan. In a market where storage upgrades usually cost extra, that shift alone could influence buying decisions across key global markets.

The camera system also sees a serious upgrade. The 48-megapixel Fusion camera delivers high-resolution shots and a 2x optical-quality zoom, effectively giving users two cameras in one. Portrait mode is smarter, HDR is more natural and 4K Dolby Vision video at 60 frames per second brings cinematic quality to everyday recording. For creators, students and professionals alike, that matters.
Durability has also been reinforced. The 6.1-inch Super Retina XDR display is protected by Ceramic Shield 2, which Apple says offers three times better scratch resistance than before. The device is rated IP68 for water and dust resistance and it supports MagSafe for faster wireless charging and a broader accessory ecosystem.
But perhaps the most critical feature is connectivity. The new C1X modem, designed by Apple, is up to twice as fast as its predecessor and more energy efficient. And for emergencies, satellite-based messaging and SOS features remain available when cellular or Wi-Fi networks are out of reach.
The iPhone 17e runs iOS 26 and introduces expanded Apple Intelligence features, including live translation and smarter call screening. Pre-orders begin March 4, with availability starting March 11 in more than 70 countries.
This launch signals a clear strategy, deliver premium-level power at a more accessible price point, while pushing deeper into AI and satellite communication.
