Wren Kitchens Shuts US Operations Suddenly, Bankruptcy Leaves Customers in Shock
A sudden collapse in the U.S. kitchen retail sector is leaving thousands of customers and employees in shock, after Wren Kitchens abruptly shut down its American operations and moved into Chapter 7 bankruptcy liquidation.
The UK-based company, once operating 15 showrooms across the East Coast and inside select Home Depot locations, informed staff in a brief internal meeting that all U.S. stores were closing immediately. Doors were locked within hours, computers were shut down and employees say they were given no warning, no severance and in many cases, no clear final communication beyond their last paycheck.
For customers, the impact has been immediate and deeply personal. Many had already paid tens of thousands of dollars for custom kitchens that were days away from installation. Now, they are left with gutted homes, missing cabinets and no confirmed delivery timelines. Some have turned to banks and card providers in an attempt to dispute payments, but recovery remains uncertain.

The sudden shutdown has also triggered legal scrutiny. Former employees and reports suggest potential violations of the federal WARN Act, which requires advance notice for large-scale layoffs. Authorities in Connecticut are now reviewing the closures, while labor officials and consumer protection agencies are urging affected workers and customers to document all communication and seek formal claims.
Home Depot, which partnered with Wren Kitchens in select locations, says it received no prior notice of the closure and is now evaluating how customers may be impacted. However, responsibility for orders remains unclear, as Wren’s U.S. operations are no longer active and communication channels appear to be unresponsive.
This situation highlights a growing concern around retail partnerships, cross-border business operations and consumer protection when companies exit a market without warning. For both employees and customers, the financial and emotional toll is already significant and the path to resolution remains uncertain.
