Hull KR Send Shockwave Before Wembley With Ruthless 62-4 Demolition of Wigan
Hull KR have delivered a massive warning to the rest of Super League and especially to Wigan Warriors, after producing a brutal 62-4 victory that completely dominated the headlines ahead of next week’s Challenge Cup final at Wembley.
What many expected to be a fierce preview of one of rugby league’s biggest rivalries quickly turned into a one-sided statement performance. Hull KR came out fast, physical and relentless and within minutes it was clear Wigan’s young side simply could not cope with the intensity.
The biggest story from the opening stages was Mikey Lewis. The Hull KR playmaker tore through the Warriors defense and completed a hat-trick inside the first 20 minutes. That set the tone for an extraordinary night at Craven Park, where the Robins ran in 11 tries and overwhelmed the reigning champions from start to finish.
But there is important context behind this result. Wigan head coach Matt Peet made the huge decision to rest almost all of his senior stars ahead of the Challenge Cup final. Ten debutants were thrown into the squad, many of them teenagers and the average age of the starting side was barely over 20 years old.

So while the scoreline looks shocking, this was also a calculated gamble by Wigan. The club clearly prioritized Wembley over regular-season points. The risk, though, is psychological. Heavy defeats like this can leave scars and Hull KR now head into the final with enormous momentum and confidence.
At the same time, there were flashes of pride from the young Warriors players. Nathan Lowe’s long-range try in the second half gave Wigan supporters something to celebrate and several of the debutants showed determination despite being under constant pressure. For many of them, this was a first taste of elite-level rugby league against one of the strongest teams in the competition.
For Hull KR, this result means far more than two league points. The club has now won eight straight matches in league and cup competition and they are looking increasingly like the dominant force of the season. After years of chasing the elite clubs, the Robins now look like a team that fully believes it belongs at the top.
Still, there was one concern late in the game. Forward Dean Hadley limped off with a possible hamstring injury and with Wembley just days away, that could become a major storyline.
So now all eyes turn to the Challenge Cup final. Wigan may have hidden their true hand tonight, but Hull KR have sent a clear message. They are confident, they are ruthless and they believe this could be their moment.
