NS&I Premium Bonds Shock: Two New Millionaires & Thousands Win Big in May Draw
A life-changing windfall has just swept across the UK as NS&I’s latest Premium Bonds draw delivers two new millionaires and millions of smaller winners, turning ordinary savings into extraordinary fortunes overnight.
The May 2026 draw has captured attention once again, with nearly six million individual prizes handed out across the country. At the very top of the list, two lucky bondholders have each scooped the £1 million jackpot, instantly becoming millionaires through what is essentially a savings product with a lottery-style twist. Alongside them, thousands more savers have landed prizes ranging from £25 up to £100,000, highlighting just how widely the winnings are spread.
In total, the prize fund this month stands at over £376 million, distributed across almost 5.9 million separate wins. While the majority of prizes sit at the lower end, the scale of participation is what makes Premium Bonds unique. Instead of earning interest in a traditional savings account, each £1 bond is entered into a monthly prize draw, creating the possibility of large, tax-free winnings.

In Norfolk alone, the results have been particularly striking. Around 326 people in the county have shared close to £982,000 in prizes. Among them, five individuals secured £50,000 each, while one saver landed £100,000. Dozens more received prizes between £1,000 and £25,000 and hundreds of others still walked away with smaller but welcome wins. It’s a reminder that while the jackpots grab headlines, the system is designed to distribute winnings widely across everyday savers.
National Savings & Investments, or NS&I, says the odds remain roughly 23,000 to 1 for each £1 bond to win a prize in any given month. That means outcomes are unpredictable and luck plays a central role. Even so, millions continue to hold Premium Bonds, attracted by the safety of the capital and the chance of tax-free rewards.
As always, winners are notified in different ways depending on the prize size, with the largest jackpots delivered personally by NS&I’s so-called “Agent Million.” Smaller winners can check results online or through the official prize checker tools.
With millions of pounds changing hands in a single draw, attention now turns to the next month’s results, as savers across the UK wait to see if their numbers are next.
