Victoria Day Parade Goes Live With New Route, Massive Security and Record Turnout
A historic celebration is about to unfold in British Columbia’s capital, but this year’s Victoria Day Parade is carrying more than just colour, music and tradition. It is also carrying heightened security, a new route and a record-breaking wave of community participation that is drawing attention far beyond the island.
The 126th annual Victoria Day Parade is set to return to downtown Victoria on Monday morning and it will be broadcast and livestreamed by CHEK starting at 9 a.m. Viewers will be able to follow the event across television, streaming platforms and online channels as the city comes alive with one of its most iconic public gatherings.
This year’s parade is significantly larger than usual, featuring 88 entries and nearly 4,200 participants. Marching bands, cultural groups, dancers, community organizations, military representatives and custom-built floats will all move through the streets, creating a continuous wave of sound and colour through the heart of the city. Organizers are describing the turnout as record-breaking, a clear sign of how deeply rooted this tradition remains in the community.

But what makes this year especially notable is the change in route. For the first time, the parade will travel along Victoria’s Inner Harbour corridor, a shift introduced following updated safety measures after the 2025 Vancouver Lapu Lapu Day Festival tragedy. Officials say the redesign is focused on crowd safety, with added barriers, traffic control measures and digital signage guiding both participants and spectators.
Security will be highly visible throughout the event. Victoria Police will be on site and a remotely piloted aircraft system will be used to monitor crowd movement from above, adding an extra layer of oversight during the busy morning celebration.
Despite these changes, organizers emphasize that the spirit of the parade remains unchanged. It continues to be a symbol of unity, heritage and community pride that has endured for over a century, bringing families together year after year through celebration and shared tradition.
