Dallas Weather Alert: Flash Flood Warnings Issued

Well hello there and welcome back to Mirror 7 News. We're starting today with a significant weather alert impacting a large part of North Texas, specifically the Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex. Residents in several counties, including Dallas, Tarrant, Johnson and others, are currently under Flash Flood Warnings, with more storms expected throughout the weekend. The National Weather Service has issued these warnings as a slow-moving low-pressure system is set to bring multiple rounds of heavy rainfall, making flash flooding the primary concern for anyone planning outdoor activities or travel through Sunday.

This weekend's forecast paints a picture of persistent wet weather, a stark contrast to the heat that's expected to arrive next week. Meteorologists are tracking a system that will dump locally heavy rain across North Texas from Friday night right through Sunday. While isolated showers might miss the immediate metro area on Friday afternoon, widespread scattered thunderstorms are predicted for Friday night, bringing not just heavy downpours but also gusty, erratic winds and frequent lightning. Boaters on local lakes are advised to exercise extreme caution and everyone should be aware of the potential for rapidly rising water levels.

The most significant rainfall and the highest chance of storms are anticipated on Saturday, with intermittent breaks in the precipitation expected. The National Weather Service has highlighted that these storms could produce locally heavy rainfall from morning through evening, making flash flooding a constant threat across the region. The warnings are in effect for counties like Johnson, Tarrant, Hill, Bosque and Ellis until 6:30 AM CDT Sunday morning, while Hood and Somervell counties have warnings until 6:00 AM CDT. Rockwall and Kaufman counties are also facing flash flood warnings until 6:15 AM CDT Sunday.

Beyond the immediate flash flood threat, there are also River Flood Warnings in effect for some areas. Dallas County is under a River Flood Warning from Sunday morning until 7:00 PM CDT Sunday evening and Tarrant County has one running from early Sunday morning until Monday morning. This means that even after the heaviest rain passes, rivers and streams could remain swollen and dangerous for an extended period. It's crucial to heed all local advisories and warnings from emergency management officials.

Looking ahead, the weather pattern is set to make a dramatic shift early next week. Once this storm system finally clears out on Monday, a strong ridge of high pressure is expected to build over the region. This will effectively shut off any chances of rain and send temperatures soaring into the 90s, with heat index values potentially reaching triple digits. So, while you need to prepare for a very wet and potentially hazardous weekend, a significant change to hot, summer-like conditions is just around the corner. Stay with Mirror 7 News for all updates as they happen.
