Ocarina of Time Remake For Switch 2 Drops In 2026
The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time is officially getting a remake for the Nintendo Switch 2 and it is coming in two thousand twenty-six. This announcement comes from Nintendo's recent Direct presentation on Tuesday, sending waves of excitement through the gaming community. After years of speculation and fervent fan requests, this beloved classic will soon be playable on a new generation of Nintendo hardware.
Ocarina of Time first launched in nineteen ninety-eight for the Nintendo 64, quickly becoming a critical and commercial phenomenon. It is frequently cited as one of the greatest video games ever made, a benchmark against which many adventure titles are still measured. This remake marks the first major release in the Zelda franchise since two thousand twenty-four's Echoes of Wisdom, which starred Princess Zelda herself. That game followed two thousand twenty-three's Tears of the Kingdom, itself a direct sequel to Breath of the Wild, both of which received upgraded Switch 2 versions at the new console's launch last year.

The new trailer offered a minimal but impactful glimpse of what's to come. It began with a voice over from an unnamed narrator setting the scene in Kokiri Forest, describing the young Link's unusual lack of a fairy. The trailer then transitioned to a visual of a sleeping Link, his hand bearing the glowing Triforce symbol, before revealing a modern logo for Ocarina of Time. While details remain scarce, Nintendo confirmed the game is slated for a two thousand twenty-six release.
This is not the first time Ocarina of Time has seen a re-release or reimagining. In two thousand two, a port was included with GameCube reservation bonuses for The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker, featuring the original game and the Master Quest version. Later, The Legend of Zelda: Collector's Edition for GameCube compiled several classic Zelda titles, including Ocarina of Time and Majora's Mask. The game has also been available on Wii and Wii U Virtual Consoles and is currently accessible via the Nintendo Online subscription service for Switch and Switch 2.
However, this upcoming Switch 2 release will be the second full remake of Ocarina of Time. In two thousand eleven, developer Grezzo rebuilt the game for the Nintendo 3DS, introducing updated graphics, motion controls and stereoscopic three-dimensional visuals. That highly acclaimed three-dimensional version also included the Master Quest content. The announcement during the Nintendo Direct also included news on other upcoming titles such as Nintendo Switch Sports Resort, Fire Emblem: Fortune's Weave and a new Pokopia update.
The significance of bringing such a foundational game to new hardware cannot be overstated, offering a new generation of players the chance to experience Link's original adventure.
