Alix Earle Apologizes for Past Racial Slur in Social Media Posts
In a recent turn of events, TikTok star and podcast host Alix Earle has publicly apologized for using a racial slur in social media posts from a decade ago. The apology came after screenshots from her old Ask.fm account surfaced online, sparking widespread backlash.
Alix Earle, known for her podcast "Hot Mess with Alix Earle" and her significant presence on TikTok, addressed the controversy in a heartfelt statement shared on her Instagram Story. The 23-year-old influencer confirmed that the screenshots, which date back to the summer of 2014 when she was just 13 years old, were indeed authentic. She expressed deep regret for her past actions, acknowledging her ignorance about the severity of the racial slur at the time.

In her apology, Earle stated, “A couple of weeks ago, screenshots surfaced from my old Ask.fm account showing me using a slur in the summer of 2014. I am taking accountability and want to make it clear that I was 13 years old and did not understand the deeply offensive meaning behind that word.” She emphasized that this explanation does not excuse her behavior. “That is no excuse for using that word in any context or at any age,” she continued. “I am deeply sorry that my words have hurt many and have led people to believe that I have any prejudice in my heart. I promise you that could not be further from the truth.”
Earle’s apology comes after the screenshots gained renewed attention online, particularly in light of recent discussions about past racist remarks made by other influencers. Despite the controversy, Earle has remained a prominent figure in the digital space, amassing over 7 million followers on TikTok and over 3 million on Instagram. She has used her platform to discuss personal struggles, including her battle with acne and her experiences with disordered eating.
Reflecting on her handling of the situation, Earle admitted that she had initially received advice to remain silent. However, she later regretted not addressing the issue sooner, saying, “I regret how I handled this situation, allowing too many people to talk me out of saying something for too long. I wasn’t sure how to handle it and unfortunately, the advice I was given, although well-intended, was wrong.” She further clarified that the delay in her response allowed space for misinformation and rumors, including unfounded claims about trademarking her old posts or losing brand deals.
Earle, who is currently based in Miami and is known for her candidness about her life and experiences, has vowed to continue using her platform for positive and uplifting content. Her apology aims to address the hurt caused by her past remarks and to reaffirm her commitment to fostering a more inclusive and respectful dialogue.
As this situation unfolds, Earle’s response underscores the broader conversation about accountability and growth in the age of social media, where past actions can resurface and spark intense scrutiny.
