Gauld and Doak Earn Spots in Scotland's Nations League Squad
In a thrilling development for Scottish football fans, Scotland Head Coach Steve Clarke has unveiled his squad for the upcoming UEFA Nations League top-tier fixtures. This announcement is particularly notable as it marks the beginning of Scotland's campaign in the premier tier of the Nations League, with matches against Poland and Portugal on the horizon.
A major highlight of the squad is the inclusion of Ryan Gauld, a name that many will remember from his previous international involvement. Gauld, who currently plays for Vancouver Whitecaps, is set to make his return to the Scotland squad after a decade. His last call-up was in 2016, and this will be an exciting opportunity for him to showcase his talent on the international stage once again.
Joining Gauld is young Liverpool winger Ben Doak, who has also earned a place in Clarke's squad. Doak's inclusion is especially significant as he had to withdraw from the preliminary squad for UEFA EURO 2024 due to injury. This is a chance for Doak to prove his fitness and contribute to Scotland’s efforts in this competitive league.
The squad also features other uncapped players such as Robby McCrorie and Max Johnston, providing them with their first opportunity to represent Scotland in a major competition. Tommy Conway, who earned his first cap in June, is another player to watch as he continues his international journey following his recent transfer to Middlesbrough.
Scotland's squad has been refreshed with several notable absences. Celtic captain Callum McGregor has announced his retirement from international football, creating space for new talent. Additionally, experienced players like Stuart Armstrong, Liam Cooper, and Ryan Jack, all currently free agents, are not included in this lineup.
The squad also sees the return of Lyndon Dykes, who has recovered from an injury that kept him out of the EUROs. Dykes will be a key player up front, alongside New York Red Bulls forward Lewis Morgan, who retains his spot after a late call-up for the Germany fixture.

The squad for the Nations League fixtures is as follows:
Goalkeepers: Zander Clark (Heart of Midlothian), Angus Gunn (Norwich City), Robby McCrorie (Kilmarnock)
Defenders: Grant Hanley (Norwich City), Max Johnston (SK Sturm Graz), Scott McKenna (UD Las Palmas), Ryan Porteous (Watford), Anthony Ralston (Celtic), Andrew Robertson (Liverpool), John Souttar (Rangers), Greg Taylor (Celtic)

Forwards: Ché Adams (Torino), Tommy Conway (Middlesborough), Lyndon Dykes (Queens Park Rangers), Lawrence Shankland (Heart of Midlothian)
Scotland's journey in the Nations League begins with a home game against Poland at Hampden Park on September 5, 2024, followed by an away match against Portugal at the Estádio do SL Benfica on September 8.
