Hot Weather A Map of 800 Cool Spots in Paris

As the summer heat intensifies in Paris, navigating the city’s sweltering temperatures can be quite a challenge. With recent days bringing soaring temperatures and public transport becoming increasingly unbearable, Parisians and visitors alike are searching for relief. Luckily, a new interactive map has come to the rescue, offering a comprehensive guide to over 800 "cool islands" scattered throughout the city. This innovative resource helps both locals and tourists find respite from the heat, featuring a variety of cool spots such as fountains, shaded green spaces, swimming pools, and air-conditioned public buildings.

Developed by Apur (Atelier parisien d’urbanisme) at the request of the City of Paris, this map categorizes these cool islands into several types, including 565 green and wooded areas, 36 bathing zones, 25 misted areas, 150 “cool” public establishments like churches and museums, and 46 air-conditioned spots such as libraries and museums. The map is designed to provide relief day and night, with a “day and night” tab that highlights green spaces open around the clock during heatwaves.

Paris, unlike coastal cities, lacks the natural cooling influence of the sea, making it crucial to have reliable alternatives. This map offers an invaluable tool for anyone looking to stay comfortable in the city’s summer heat. Whether you’re seeking a quiet park to unwind, a refreshing splash in a public pool, or a cool indoor spot to escape the sun, this map has you covered.

In addition to the map, the city of Paris has provided useful tips for managing the heat. Recommendations include staying hydrated by drinking water regularly, consuming fruits and vegetables, limiting alcohol intake, avoiding strenuous activities during peak heat hours, and keeping indoor spaces cool by closing shutters during the day.

The map's interactive nature allows users to easily locate the nearest cooling spots and plan their day accordingly. It’s a fantastic tool for enhancing comfort during Paris’s hot spells, ensuring that everyone can find a refreshing retreat amid the bustling city life. So, whether you’re a resident trying to beat the heat or a tourist exploring Parisian landmarks, this map is your ultimate guide to staying cool in the French capital.
