Sonic Boom Identified: Singaporean F-15 Jets Behind Perth's Mysterious Explosion
Late Wednesday morning, a loud and puzzling boom was heard across Perth's southern suburbs, leaving residents and emergency services alike scrambling for answers. The Republic of Singapore Air Force (RSAF) has now confirmed that the source of the disturbance was indeed their F-15 fighter jets. The aircraft, engaged in routine training exercises, were operating from RAAF Base Pearce, located in Perth's northern outskirts. According to the RSAF, the jets were flying approximately 70 kilometers off the coast at an altitude of 24,000 feet within a designated training zone.
The RSAF’s spokesperson acknowledged that the loud noise, which was an unexpected sonic boom, likely originated from their aircraft. "The loud noise was not anticipated as the aircraft were positioned far out at sea," the statement clarified. "We regret any alarm caused by our training activities and appreciate the support of both the RAAF and the local community."

A sonic boom occurs when an aircraft exceeds the speed of sound, roughly 1,236 kilometers per hour at sea level.
