Todd Phillips Cancels Hulk Hogan Biopic Starring Chris Hemsworth

In recent news, Todd Phillips, the director renowned for his work on the film Joker , has officially announced that he will no longer be moving forward with a planned biopic about wrestling legend Hulk Hogan, which was set to star Thor actor Chris Hemsworth. The project, which had been in development for some time, has now been shelved, much to the disappointment of fans who were eagerly anticipating Hemsworth's portrayal of the iconic wrestler.

Phillips revealed this decision in an interview with Variety , stating, "I love what we were trying to do, but that's not going to come together for me." His comment reflects the challenges that often arise in the filmmaking process, where even the most promising projects can sometimes fall apart. Phillips’ statement suggests that despite the initial enthusiasm, the project failed to progress in a way that would justify continuing.

This update isn't entirely surprising, especially considering that Chris Hemsworth had already hinted at potential issues with the project earlier this year. Back in May, Hemsworth expressed uncertainty about the movie’s future, telling ScreenRant that while he was excited about the idea, nothing concrete had materialized. "If there's a great script and a story to tell, I'd love to jump into it. But there's nothing official at this point," Hemsworth mentioned, signaling that the film might be in trouble.

With the Hulk Hogan biopic now off the table, fans are left wondering what's next for both Phillips and Hemsworth. Phillips is currently focused on the upcoming Joker sequel, Joker: Folie à Deux , which is slated for release this October. As for Hemsworth, his future projects remain shrouded in mystery, though his commitment to finding the right roles continues to make headlines.

Phillips also hinted that the Joker sequel might be his last foray into that particular universe, despite its massive success. He shared that while creating two films within this world was an enjoyable experience, he feels they’ve told the story they wanted to tell. In fact, Phillips and his team even considered alternative ideas, such as producing a Broadway musical or exploring a female version of the Joker, before settling on the current direction for the sequel.

As the entertainment world digests this news, it’s clear that Phillips and Hemsworth both have their sights set on new challenges and opportunities. While the Hulk Hogan movie may not happen under Phillips’ direction, the possibility remains that another filmmaker could pick up the project in the future. Until then, fans will have to wait and see what these two Hollywood powerhouses come up with next.
