York Regional Police Investigating Markham Woman’s Suspicious Disappearance

In a troubling development, York Regional Police’s Homicide Unit has launched an investigation into the disappearance of Yuk-Ying Anita Mui, a 56-year-old real estate agent from Markham. Mui was last seen by her family around 9:30 a.m. on Friday, August 9, 2024. She had left her home in the Baycliffe Road and Warden Avenue area, and while she made a brief phone call to her family around 11 a.m., she has not been heard from since.

The case has drawn significant concern due to the circumstances surrounding her disappearance, which police have classified as "suspicious." The investigation took a crucial turn when Mui’s vehicle, a white 2024 Mercedes Benz GLE450 SUV, was discovered later that same day in the Finch Avenue East and Warden Avenue area of Toronto. This discovery has intensified the search efforts as authorities and her family express growing anxiety over her well-being.

Constable Lisa Moskaluk of the York Regional Police has stated that while there is currently no evidence to suggest that Mui has been harmed, the unusual nature of her disappearance and the fact that she has not maintained her usual contact with family have raised significant alarms. As of now, there is no indication that her case is linked to other recent missing persons reports or that it involves a carjacking.

Mui is described as a Chinese female, approximately 5 feet 6 inches tall, weighing around 130 pounds, with a medium build. She has brown eyes and straight, shoulder-length black hair. Her disappearance is considered highly out of character for her, further deepening the concerns of both her family and the police.

Authorities are urging anyone who may have seen her vehicle or who has any information about her whereabouts to come forward. They can contact the Homicide Unit at 1-866-876-5423 ext. 7865, email homicide@yrp.ca , or call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS. As the investigation continues, the community remains on edge, hoping for any leads that might bring Yuk-Ying Anita Mui safely back to her family.
