Ali Bastian Opens Up About Breast Cancer Battle: “I Will Get Through This”
Former Hollyoaks star Ali Bastian recently shared heartbreaking news about her health, revealing that she has been diagnosed with stage 2 breast cancer. The 42-year-old actress, who is a mother of two young daughters, discovered a lump in her breast while breastfeeding her 19-month-old daughter, Isabella. Initially, she thought the pain and discomfort were due to mastitis, a common issue for breastfeeding mothers. However, when the lump did not go away after taking antibiotics, she sought further medical advice, and the diagnosis came as a shock.

Ali is currently undergoing weekly chemotherapy treatments, which are expected to last five months. After chemotherapy, she will undergo a mastectomy and possibly radiotherapy. The emotional and physical toll of this diagnosis has been immense, but Ali remains determined to face the battle head-on. She has expressed both her fears and her hope, saying that while there are days of uncertainty, she clings to the doctors' reassurance that their "intent is to cure her."
The cancer is hormone-driven, and Ali’s family history—her aunt and grandmother also had breast cancer—has led doctors to consider the possibility of genetic factors. Ali is contemplating a double mastectomy as a preventative measure, though she is still discussing her options with her medical team. Her husband, David O'Mahony, has been by her side every step of the way, taking care of their daughters and helping Ali through the tough times.
Ali has found some solace in exercising and journaling. Staying active, especially through her Peloton bike workouts, gives her a sense of control over her body, a feeling often lost in the midst of such a life-altering diagnosis. She also speaks to a psychologist specializing in oncology and has connected with a peer support mentor, someone who has gone through breast cancer, providing invaluable emotional support.
Despite the overwhelming challenges ahead, Ali remains optimistic about the future. She hopes to return to acting once her treatment is complete, and her love for the craft is stronger than ever. With the support of her family, friends, and medical team, Ali believes she will come out of this experience stronger and ready to face whatever comes next.
Her bravery in sharing her journey is an inspiration to many, and through the ups and downs, Ali is determined to get through this difficult chapter, holding on to the hope of a healthy future.
