Borussia Dortmund Handball Team Faces Tough Challenge Against Thüringer HC
As the new season of the Handball Bundesliga kicks off, the Borussia Dortmund handball team is set to face a formidable opponent in Thüringer HC this Friday evening. The game, which marks Dortmund’s first away fixture of the season, is scheduled to take place at 19:00 in the Salza-Halle in Bad Langensalza. Eurosport will be broadcasting the match live on free TV, ensuring fans won’t miss a moment of the action.
Coach Henk Groener and his squad are preparing for a challenging encounter. The BVB handballers started the season with a hard-fought 25:25 draw against Buxtehude, a game in which they struggled with consistency. Leading by four goals at halftime, Dortmund's defense faltered in the second half, allowing 16 goals. Groener expressed his concerns, noting that the team’s defensive cohesion was lacking and that the squad needs to improve significantly. Despite these setbacks, Groener remains hopeful as the team is still in its early stages of development, having only been together for three weeks.

Thüringer HC, last season’s third-place team, has undergone a major overhaul during the summer. With seven new signings, including Sharon Nooitmeer from Neckarsulm, and eight departures, including the notable exit of Annika Lott to Brest, the team is in a period of transition. Their first game of the season against Bayer Leverkusen ended in a convincing 28:17 victory, showing their potential despite the upheaval.
The Dortmund team will be facing Thüringer HC without their goalkeeper Tess Lieder, who is still recovering from a head injury sustained in a preseason match against Oldenburg. Nevertheless, Groener has a full squad to choose from and is determined to build on the positives from their draw against Buxtehude. “We need to address our stability issues, but we’ve shown glimpses of what we’re capable of,” he commented.
The match will kick off at 19:00 local time, with Eurosport’s coverage starting at 18:45. For those unable to tune in, the game will also be available via live stream on Sportdeutschland.TV, a media partner of the Handball Bundesliga. Additionally, the BVB handball team’s next fixture, the cup tie against Sport-Union Neckarsulm, has been scheduled for October 5 at 19:00.
With the season still young, both teams are looking to solidify their positions and build momentum. Fans of Borussia Dortmund will be eager to see how their team performs against such a strong opponent, and the match promises to be a key test for both sides early in the season.
