Corey Feldman and Martha Plimpton Shut Down 'The Goonies 2' Rumors
In recent weeks, there has been a lot of speculation swirling around about a potential sequel to the iconic 1985 film The Goonies . Fans have long hoped for a continuation of the beloved adventure that followed a group of kids hunting for pirate treasure. However, these hopes seem to have been officially dashed, at least for now. Both Corey Feldman and Martha Plimpton, who starred in the original film, have come forward to deny the rumors.
Corey Feldman took to X (formerly Twitter) to put the speculation to rest. He stated bluntly, “I can officially tell you 100% no! I have no info that a sequel is in the works.” This candid message from Feldman comes as a direct response to reports claiming Warner Bros. was planning to shoot a sequel next summer, aiming for a release in 2026 or 2027. Despite the hope of fans, it seems that the beloved "Goonies never say die" spirit does not translate to a sequel—at least for now.
Martha Plimpton, another key member of the original cast, echoed Feldman’s sentiments. She also used the opportunity to engage fans with a reminder about civic duty, urging them to check their voter registration. Plimpton made it clear that no sequel was happening, stating, “There is no Goonies 2 script, there is no one attached, Spielberg is not directing.” Her message was a definitive rejection of the reports that had spread across social media.

The rumors gained momentum after a report from The Sun , which claimed Warner Bros. was moving forward with a Goonies sequel, even speculating that much of the original cast would return. The prospect of reuniting Josh Brolin, Sean Astin, Ke Huy Quan, and others after nearly 40 years had fans buzzing. The 1985 film remains a cultural touchstone for many, and with the youth adventure genre making a strong resurgence, it seemed like the perfect time to bring back The Goonies . However, despite the enthusiasm, Feldman and Plimpton have firmly shut the door on those hopes.
It's important to note that this isn’t the first time the idea of a Goonies sequel has come up. Even Steven Spielberg, who was involved in the original, has mentioned that there have been multiple discussions about a follow-up. However, none of those ideas have materialized into anything concrete. In a 2020 virtual reunion, Spielberg revealed that they’ve tried to come up with ideas, but none have held water. With Richard Donner, the original director, having passed away in 2021, the future of any potential sequel remains uncertain.
For now, it looks like fans of The Goonies will have to be content with revisiting the original film and holding onto the memories of Mikey, Mouth, Data, and the rest of the gang. Though hopes for a sequel may be on hold, the love for the film remains as strong as ever. After all, in true Goonies fashion, their adventure will live on in the hearts of fans forever.
