Dallas Cowboys Fall Short in a Thrilling Comeback Against the Baltimore Ravens
The Dallas Cowboys faced off against the Baltimore Ravens in a dramatic Week 3 NFL showdown, and what started as a seemingly disastrous game for Dallas turned into a thrilling near-comeback. The Cowboys found themselves trailing 28-6 heading into the fourth quarter, but a late surge brought them within three points, only to fall short in a 28-25 loss. Despite the valiant effort, the defeat leaves Dallas with a 1-2 record and raises concerns about the team's consistency and ability to overcome their own mistakes.
One of the biggest factors contributing to the Cowboys' loss was the series of self-inflicted wounds that set them back early in the game. While they only had six accepted penalties for 44 yards, the timing of these penalties was critical. For example, Dallas opened the game with several penalties on their first drive, negating potential scoring opportunities. The most significant was Tyler Smith’s holding penalty after a crucial reception by CeeDee Lamb, pushing the team back 10 yards and altering their momentum. To make matters worse, Lamb fumbled on the following play, allowing Baltimore to take control of the game early. This set the tone for a frustrating day for the Cowboys' offense, where turnovers and penalties prevented them from keeping pace with the Ravens.

Defensively, the Cowboys struggled to stop Baltimore’s relentless rushing attack. Lamar Jackson didn’t need to throw much, as the Ravens ran the ball 45 times for a staggering 274 yards, averaging 6.1 yards per carry. The Dallas defense missed over 10 tackles, unable to contain both inside and outside runs. This inability to control the ground game also opened up opportunities for play-action passes, further weakening the Cowboys' defensive efforts. With so many missed tackles and an inability to set the edge, it was clear that Dallas still has work to do on their run defense, which has now struggled in consecutive weeks.
On offense, the Cowboys were hampered by a lack of explosive plays, particularly in the first three quarters. Dak Prescott found himself under constant pressure due to issues along the offensive line. Rookie linemen Cooper Beebe and Tyler Guyton struggled to protect Prescott, while veteran Terence Steele had his hands full trying to fend off Baltimore’s pass rush. As a result, Prescott was forced to make quick throws, often limiting the team's ability to stretch the field. Although there were a few deep shots taken to Brandin Cooks and Jalen Tolbert, the lack of success on these attempts further stifled the Cowboys' offense.
Ultimately, the Cowboys' late-game heroics weren’t enough to overcome the deficit they had dug themselves into. The penalties, defensive lapses, and lack of explosive plays early in the game proved too much to overcome, and Baltimore’s ability to control the clock with two late first downs sealed the Cowboys' fate. While the near-comeback gave fans hope, the Cowboys will need to address their early-game issues and improve both their run defense and offensive line play if they hope to turn their season around.
