Daniel Ricciardo’s future in Formula 1 seems uncertain after an emotional Singapore Grand Prix, where he admitted that the race might have been his last. Despite a challenging evening, the eight-time Grand Prix winner seemed at peace with the possibility that his career may be drawing to a close. Starting from P16 after a disappointing Q1 exit, Ricciardo faced an uphill battle at the Marina Bay Street Circuit. Although he gave his best effort with an alternative strategy, the lack of a Safety Car rendered his approach ineffective, and he finished near the back in 18th place.

The Australian's Red Bull team made a late move to pit him for new soft tires, allowing Ricciardo to claim the fastest lap of the race, a gesture aimed at helping his teammate Max Verstappen in the championship race. Reflecting on the race, Ricciardo mentioned how he was simply “having one last crack at doing a fast lap,” knowing that it could be his final moment on the F1 grid. He acknowledged the harsh reality that he must be prepared for the possibility that Singapore may have been his last Grand Prix.

Rumors have been swirling that Ricciardo might be replaced by Red Bull’s rising star, Liam Lawson, before the end of the season. Ricciardo himself recognized the speculation, stating, "It’s been a race-by-race situation, and I would have loved for this weekend to go better, but I need to be ready for this potentially being it."

Ricciardo’s return to F1 with Red Bull in 2023 came after a challenging exit from McLaren. Despite hopes of reviving his career and fighting for victories again, the reality has been tougher. Reflecting on his career, Ricciardo expressed pride in what he's achieved, despite not securing a world championship. He remarked, “I think when you’ve experienced the highs of winning, it’s hard to keep fighting for lower positions.”

At 35, Ricciardo has acknowledged the increasing difficulty of competing at the highest level week in and week out, but he remains proud of his 14-year career. If this is indeed his final race, the Australian seems to have made peace with it. "At some point, it’ll come for all of us," he said. "I’m happy with the effort I put in, and there’s no sadness or regret."

As he savored what could be his final moments in the cockpit, Ricciardo’s vulnerability was clear. He took extra time in parc ferme, reflecting on his journey in the sport. Fans and fellow drivers alike are left wondering if this will truly be the last time they see the beloved driver on the F1 grid.
