Hamilton Triumphs in Singapore Qualifying, Avoiding Year-Long Disasters
Lewis Hamilton has finally turned a corner in the Formula 1 season, securing a much-needed third place in the qualifying rounds of the Singapore Grand Prix. After enduring a challenging year filled with struggles on the track, Hamilton expressed his relief and gratitude towards his team for the significant improvement in performance.
In a post-qualifying interview, the seven-time world champion thanked the passionate fans who traveled to support him, acknowledging their unwavering encouragement. "Thank you to everyone for the support. Many of my followers have come here," he stated, clearly appreciating the atmosphere created by the crowd. Hamilton reflected on his recent struggles, admitting that qualifying had been a "disaster" for him throughout the season. However, he felt a renewed sense of hope as he managed to maximize the potential of his car during this crucial session. "It was difficult to put together a good lap, and I think there was still a bit more we could have squeezed out of the car," he noted.

Hamilton attributed his success to the hard work of his mechanics, who made significant adjustments to the car’s balance over the weekend. "They were constantly tweaking things, and they did a fantastic job. I’m very grateful for their efforts," he said, emphasizing the importance of teamwork in achieving this turnaround. He now looks forward to the race with optimism, though he remains cautious about the competition. "It’s one day at a time! The car felt much better today, but the McLarens have been incredibly fast, so we need to manage our tires as effectively as they have."
Meanwhile, Max Verstappen also expressed satisfaction with his second-place position, especially considering the difficulties faced during earlier sessions. In contrast, Sergio Pérez experienced a nightmarish qualifying, finishing 13th after being eliminated in Q2, a stark reminder of the unpredictable nature of racing.
Hamilton's qualifying performance is a welcome change for him and the Mercedes team, which has struggled to find a consistent pace this season. He highlighted that only six times out of 21 qualifying sessions had he outpaced his teammate George Russell, making this result even sweeter. "Being back in the top positions with these incredible drivers is so gratifying," he shared, reflecting on his long absence from the top three in post-qualifying press conferences.
Looking ahead to the race, Hamilton acknowledged the uncertainty surrounding tire management and the performance of his car over long distances.
