Mark Robinson Faces Scandal Amid Controversial Comments, Yet Stays in North Carolina Gubernatorial Race
North Carolina’s gubernatorial race has been rocked by a recent scandal surrounding the Republican nominee, Mark Robinson. According to a report from CNN, Robinson, who currently serves as the state’s lieutenant governor, allegedly referred to himself as a “black Nazi” in posts on a pornography website between 2008 and 2012. These posts, made on a site called "Nude Africa," included inflammatory comments where Robinson reportedly called himself a "perv" and expressed disturbing views on topics like slavery and Hitler. One of his posts from 2010 suggested that slavery should be reinstated, stating, "Slavery is not bad. Some people need to be slaves. I would certainly buy a few."
The controversy deepened with further revelations, including a post from 2012 where Robinson expressed a preference for Hitler over the political leaders of the time, during the Obama administration. These statements have drawn strong criticism, with many calling for him to drop out of the race. Despite this, Robinson remains defiant. In a social media video, he denied making the remarks and accused his political opponents of orchestrating a smear campaign. He compared the situation to what he described as a “high-tech lynching,” similar to what Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas experienced during his confirmation hearings in the 1990s.

Robinson’s long history of controversial remarks has raised concerns for many, including within his own party. Republicans, concerned about the potential fallout, have reportedly pressured Robinson to withdraw from the race. However, with the deadline for removing a candidate from the ballot already passed, Robinson’s name will remain. His refusal to step down comes even as polling numbers show him trailing behind his Democratic opponent, Attorney General Josh Stein, by eight points according to a recent Emerson College poll.
Adding to the tension, Robinson’s ties to former President Donald Trump have come under scrutiny. While Trump endorsed Robinson earlier in the campaign, it has been reported that the Trump campaign has since distanced itself, asking Robinson not to appear on stage with the former president.
The situation places North Carolina, a key battleground state in the upcoming elections, at the center of national attention. With Robinson’s continued presence in the race, the outcome remains uncertain. Should he win, Republicans would gain full control of the state’s government, setting the stage for significant political shifts in this crucial swing state. As the election approaches, all eyes will be on North Carolina to see how this scandal plays out and whether it impacts the broader national political landscape.
