NFL Week 2 Report Cards: Cowboys Fail, Packers Shine Without Jordan Love
Welcome to the Week 2 grades for the NFL, where the performances of teams are scrutinized, and the early season trends start to emerge. This week provided a mix of eye-opening successes and disappointing failures, so let’s dive into the highlights and lowlights from around the league.
The Dallas Cowboys received a dismal 'F' after a humiliating 44-19 defeat against the New Orleans Saints. The Cowboys, who entered the week with high hopes, were utterly overwhelmed. The Saints’ offense was unstoppable, led by Alvin Kamara’s stunning four-touchdown performance and Derek Carr's precision. Meanwhile, the Cowboys' defense crumbled, unable to contain Kamara or cover key receivers like Rashid Shaheed. Offensively, the Cowboys failed to score touchdowns in the red zone, leading to a harsh reality check for a team that had high expectations.
On a more positive note, the Green Bay Packers earned an impressive 'A-' despite being without their starting quarterback, Jordan Love. The Packers relied heavily on their running game, with Josh Jacobs rushing for 151 yards and contributing to a total of 261 rushing yards. Malik Willis, filling in for Love, was efficient, and the Packers’ defense made crucial interceptions to seal their 16-10 victory over the Colts. This victory demonstrates the Packers’ ability to adapt and win even when key players are sidelined.

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers also impressed with a solid 'A-' grade after their narrow 20-16 win against the Detroit Lions. The Bucs’ defense bent but didn’t break, making key stops and forcing two critical turnovers. Chris Godwin’s performance, with 117 receiving yards, was instrumental in the victory. Despite the Lions' offensive yards, they struggled to capitalize in the red zone, which ultimately cost them the game.
Conversely, the Chicago Bears struggled once again, but the Indianapolis Colts fared even worse. The Colts received a 'C-' for their performance, where quarterback Anthony Richardson’s accuracy issues and multiple interceptions were costly. Despite the Colts’ strong run defense, they couldn’t prevent the Packers from dominating on the ground.
The Seattle Seahawks secured a 'B+' with their 23-20 overtime victory over the New England Patriots. Geno Smith delivered a standout performance with 327 passing yards and key contributions from Jaxon Smith-Njigba and DK Metcalf. The Patriots, though competitive, couldn't match the Seahawks’ passing game, leaving them with a 'B-' for their efforts.
In a surprising turn, the Arizona Cardinals earned an 'A+' after a dominant 41-10 win over the Los Angeles Rams. Kyler Murray’s perfect passer rating and Marvin Harrison Jr.’s breakout game showcased the Cardinals' potent offense. The Rams, already struggling with injuries, were unable to compete effectively, earning them a poor 'F' for the week.
As we look at these Week 2 performances, it’s clear that the NFL season is off to a dramatic start, with some teams clearly rising to the occasion while others face early-season struggles. Keep an eye on these trends as the season progresses, as they might just set the tone for the rest of the year.
