Princess Cruises Boosts 'Crew Appreciation' Fees: What You Need to Know

Princess Cruises has announced an increase in their “Crew Appreciation Fee,” a daily charge that will now be higher for guests traveling on their ships. This fee, which is automatically added to onboard accounts, is designed to reward the efforts of the diverse crew members who enhance the cruise experience for all guests.

Effective from the upcoming months, the new fee structure will see guests in suites paying an additional $19 per person per day. Those in mini-suites, cabanas, and club class staterooms will incur a $18 daily fee, while guests in all other stateroom categories will see a $17 per person per day increase. This change aims to pool the collected funds and distribute them as compensation and bonuses throughout the year to the crew, who often rotate between ships.

Princess Cruises emphasizes that passengers have the flexibility to adjust this fee if needed. However, adjustments can only be made before disembarking, and the fee becomes non-refundable once the cruise ends. The cruise line assures that their team is available to address any concerns regarding the fee during the voyage. The official stance from Princess Cruises is that this system of fee adjustment is in place to ensure that all guests feel their concerns are promptly addressed.

The increased fee will be implemented in phases across various Princess Cruise ships, starting with the Enchanted Princess on August 31, 2024, and rolling out to other ships like the Majestic Princess and Sky Princess shortly thereafter. The full rollout is expected to be completed by late October 2024.

A spokesperson for Princess Cruises stated that the fee adjustment aligns with updates to their Princess Premier packages, which offer additional perks like unlimited beverages and specialty dining. This strategic move underscores Princess Cruises' commitment to rewarding their staff while enhancing the overall guest experience.

While some passengers may view this fee increase with hesitation, the cruise line hopes that the added cost will be seen as a positive contribution towards ensuring that their crew members receive fair recognition for their hard work. The “Crew Appreciation Fee” is part of Princess Cruises' broader effort to maintain high standards of service and satisfaction on their voyages.
