PWHL Unveils New Team Names and Logos for the 2024-25 Season
Excitement is building as the Professional Women's Hockey League (PWHL) gears up for its second season, and a major reveal has fans buzzing. On September 9, 2024, the league officially unveiled the names and logos for its six teams, marking a significant milestone for the league and its growing fan base. Each team now sports a unique identity, enhancing the anticipation for the upcoming 2024-25 season.
One of the most talked-about changes is the Toronto team’s new name and logo. Previously known simply as the Toronto team, they will now be called the Toronto Sceptres. This new identity is a nod to Toronto’s regal history and its nickname, "the Queen City." The Sceptres’ logo features a majestic scepter, embodying power and strength, which Toronto forward Natalie Spooner believes will resonate deeply with their fans. Spooner, who was named the league’s MVP last season, expressed her enthusiasm about the new branding, saying it adds an extra layer of excitement for the team and its supporters.

"The energy and support from our fans have been incredible," Spooner said. "With our new name and logo, I think we're going to see even more enthusiasm in the stands. A sceptre represents strength and power, and I believe this will really rally the team as we aim to achieve even greater success this season."
The Toronto Sceptres are not the only team to receive a new look. The PWHL also introduced the Montreal Victoire, Ottawa Charge, Boston Fleet, New York Sirens, and Minnesota Frost. Each name and logo has been carefully crafted to reflect the team’s identity and the city it represents, making this season’s lineup more dynamic and engaging.
In addition to the new names and logos, Toronto’s team will also be moving to the Coca-Cola Coliseum for their home games, leaving behind the Mattamy Athletic Centre. This transition is expected to accommodate a larger audience, following last season’s impressive turnout. The team’s playoff games at Coca-Cola Coliseum saw an average attendance of over 8,500 fans, signaling strong support and a promising future in their new home.
The anticipation for the new season is palpable, with fans eagerly awaiting the chance to see their teams in action with their fresh identities. The league’s decision to keep the new names and logos under wraps until the official announcement has only added to the excitement, highlighting the meticulous planning and strategic marketing that have gone into the PWHL’s second season.
As the PWHL prepares for what promises to be an exhilarating season, the unveiling of these new team identities is just the beginning. With fresh names, logos, and a new venue for the Toronto Sceptres, the league is set to capture the attention of hockey fans everywhere, continuing to build on the momentum of its inaugural season.
