Hernandez’s downfall began in 2013 when the body of Odin Lloyd, a semi-professional football player, was found near his Massachusetts home. Lloyd was dating the sister of Hernandez's fiancée, which made the connection even more personal. Hernandez was arrested soon after and, in 2015, was convicted of first-degree murder. However, his legal troubles didn’t stop there. In 2014, Hernandez was also charged with the fatal 2012 shootings of Daniel de Abreu and Safiro Furtado, although he was acquitted of these charges in 2017.
Just days after his acquittal, Hernandez was found dead in his prison cell, having hanged himself with a bed sheet. His death, however, opened more conversations about his mental health, particularly about Chronic Traumatic Encephalopathy (CTE), a condition caused by repeated head injuries, which was later found in his brain.
The show delves into these key moments, as well as Hernandez’s troubled upbringing, his alleged struggles with his sexuality, and the psychological impact of his football career.
