Tony Hawk's Pro Skater Marks 25th Anniversary with Fresh Branding

Hey everyone! If you’re a fan of skateboarding games, you’re in for a treat. The iconic Tony Hawk's Pro Skater series is celebrating its 25th anniversary, and it looks like Activision is gearing up for a big celebration. Recently, the official social media channels for the series received a stylish new look to commemorate this milestone.

So, what’s new? Well, the updated Twitter and YouTube pages now flaunt some eye-catching artwork. The fresh visuals feature a sleek blacked-out version of the Tony Hawk silhouette that was made popular with the recent Pro Skater 1 + 2 remakes. Alongside this, you'll spot the new "25th anniversary THPS" phrase prominently displayed. This update serves as a nod to the franchise’s storied history, which began back on September 29, 1999, when the original Tony Hawk's Pro Skater hit the PS1 in the USA. It then launched in Europe a few weeks later on October 18, 1999, with ports for Nintendo 64, Game Boy Color, and Dreamcast following in the subsequent year.

The last decade hasn’t been without its ups and downs for the series. After the less-than-stellar reception of Pro Skater 5 in 2015, the franchise went quiet. However, hope was rekindled when Vicarious Visions came along with the successful remakes of the first two games, which brought the beloved classics to modern platforms. Unfortunately, Activision decided against remaking Pro Skater 3 and Pro Skater 4 , opting instead to focus resources on the Call of Duty franchise.

Now, with the 25th anniversary upon us, there’s speculation that we might see something new from the series. The updated Facebook branding suggests that the celebration will stretch across the entire month of September, hinting that fans could be in for a series of announcements or updates.

Despite the excitement, there's a cautious optimism in the air. Some fans are holding out hope for remakes of Pro Skater 3 and Pro Skater 4 , which were initially planned but never came to fruition. The recent renewal of the series’ copyright and the "all month long" celebration have sparked discussions about what could be on the horizon. While the prospect of these additional remakes seems tantalizing, the details remain unclear, and it’s still uncertain if Activision will deliver on these hopes.

In the meantime, if you’re like many fans who cherish the nostalgia of the original games, the remakes of Pro Skater 1 and Pro Skater 2 continue to provide hours of enjoyment. Whether or not we’ll see new content from the series, the 25th anniversary is a reminder of how impactful and enduring the Tony Hawk's Pro Skater franchise has been over the years.
