Urgent Flash Flood Warning Issued for Several Idaho Counties
Attention, Idaho residents: a critical weather alert has been issued by the National Weather Service for multiple counties in southwestern Idaho. This Flash Flood Warning is in effect until 8:15 p.m. today, September 16, 2024. The affected areas include Southeastern Adams County, Northeastern Gem County, West Central Valley County, and Eastern Washington County.
The current situation is dire as Doppler radar has detected severe thunderstorms in these regions, leading to significant rainfall. Within the warned area, between 1 and 1.5 inches of rain has already fallen, and the rainfall rate is expected to continue at this pace. Additional rainfall of 0.5 to 1 inch is anticipated, increasing the risk of flash flooding. This is particularly concerning for areas affected by recent wildfires, where the risk of debris flows is heightened.

Those in these areas should be especially cautious as this kind of flooding can cause significant damage and pose serious risks to safety.
Moreover, excessive rainfall over burn scars from recent fires can lead to dangerous debris flows. These flows, consisting of rock, mud, and vegetation, can move swiftly and unpredictably, making travel hazardous and potentially damaging to property. Locations such as Four Bit Summit, Granite Peak, Sage Hen Reservoir, southern Cascade Reservoir, Granger Butte, and Indian Valley are particularly at risk.
