US Boy Kidnapped in 1951 Reunited with Family After 70 Years
In a truly remarkable turn of events, Luis Armando Albino, a man who was abducted as a young boy from a park in California back in 1951, has been reunited with his family over 70 years later. Albino, now 79 years old, had vanished when he was just six. He was lured away by a woman who promised to buy him sweets while he played with his older brother, Roger, in West Oakland. For decades, his family lived with the heartache of not knowing his whereabouts, but they never gave up hope.
Luis Albino’s story came to light this year, thanks to his niece, Alida Alequin, who embarked on a quest to find her missing uncle. Her search began somewhat accidentally in 2020 when she took a DNA test out of curiosity. The results showed a 22% match with a man she didn’t recognize but would later discover was her uncle, Luis. Encouraged by this clue, Alequin and her daughters delved deep into family history, newspaper archives, and sought help from authorities. This determination, coupled with modern DNA technology, helped uncover the long-lost truth.

It turned out that Albino had been taken to the East Coast and raised far away from the life and family he once knew. Over the years, he built a new life, serving as a firefighter and a Marine, including two tours in Vietnam. Despite living a life filled with service and achievement, Albino had missing pieces in his own past, some of which he still chooses to keep private.
In June 2024, after the painstaking search, Alida finally reunited her uncle with the family he had been separated from for so long. This emotional reunion took place just in time for Luis to reconnect with his older brother, Roger, before Roger’s passing from cancer. The two shared a heartfelt moment, embracing and reminiscing, bringing a bittersweet sense of closure to the Albino family.
Though their mother, who passed away in 2005, never got the chance to see Luis again, she always held on to the belief that he was alive. Her hope, passed down to her children and grandchildren, fueled the determination that led to Luis’s discovery. Luis’s niece, Alida, now hopes that this story can offer hope to other families going through similar painful searches, reminding them to never give up.
