Australia Cruise to Victory Over Pakistan, But Injuries Raise Concerns
In the 14th match of the Women’s T20 World Cup 2024/25, Australia’s commanding nine-wicket win over Pakistan was slightly overshadowed by injury concerns to key players. The defending champions showcased their dominance in Dubai by bundling Pakistan out for a paltry 82 runs and comfortably chasing the target in just 11 overs. However, the injuries to fast bowler Tayla Vlaeminck and captain Alyssa Healy put a damper on their otherwise stellar performance.

Pakistan, missing captain Fatima Sana due to personal reasons and Diana Baig due to injury, struggled throughout their innings. With the bat, Pakistan managed only 82 runs, marking the lowest total of the tournament so far. Aliya Riaz was the only batter to show some resistance, scoring 26 runs, while Ashleigh Gardner's brilliant spell of 4/21 dismantled Pakistan’s lineup. Gardner was the standout performer for Australia, with additional support from Annabel Sutherland (2/15) and Georgia Wareham (2/16). Australia’s bowlers dominated from the start, with Pakistan only managing their first boundary in the ninth over. They found it tough to break free, ending their innings with just four boundaries.
Australia's chase began in typical fashion, with Healy and Beth Mooney setting a solid foundation. Healy, however, had to retire hurt in the 10th over due to a foot injury after scoring 37 off 23 balls. Despite this setback, Ellyse Perry (22*) and Gardner (7*) quickly wrapped up the chase, ensuring Australia’s third consecutive win in the tournament.
While Australia sits comfortably atop Group A with a healthy net run rate, the injuries to Vlaeminck and Healy cast a shadow over their upcoming matches. Their next challenge will be against India, while Pakistan, almost out of knockout contention, will face New Zealand.
