The updated floor plan now organizes children’s clothing by age group rather than separating them by both gender and size, a change that has stirred a strong reaction among regular shoppers.

Traditionally, Big W organized kids' clothes into clearly labeled "boys" and "girls" sections. Now, however, the layout has merged both genders' clothing in certain age categories, with sizes 1-7 in one section and 8-16 in another. This adjustment, although made with the intention of making things easier for parents, has had the opposite effect for many. Several shoppers have expressed their frustrations, noting that finding clothes for their children now feels like a challenging treasure hunt.

One mother, Purieh Alonzo, voiced her discontent with the new layout, describing her shopping experience as "exhausting and frustrating." She explained how the change has detracted from the joy of shopping, often leaving her overwhelmed. Alonzo even admitted that she would prefer to shop elsewhere as a result. This sentiment seems to be shared by many others, as discussions on social media platforms have revealed a widespread sense of dissatisfaction.

Bec Arnold, another Big W shopper, shared her frustration in a post that attracted over 200 comments, most of which echoed her concerns. Arnold described the new layout as "horrible" and "time-wasting," pointing out that the mix of boys' and girls' clothes makes it difficult for busy parents to shop efficiently. Many parents mentioned how they now find it confusing to navigate the clothing aisles, with some claiming that the current design lacks clear flow and organization.

Big W has responded to the backlash by stating that the change was made based on customer feedback, aiming to make it easier for families to shop by grouping age-appropriate clothes together. While the retailer insists that clothes are still arranged by gender within these sections, the new age-based grouping has led to confusion among many customers. Some parents have defended the shift, noting that kids' clothes are just that—kids' clothes, regardless of gender.
