Chris Jericho’s WWE Return Rumors Hit a Pause Button
Right now, there’s a lot of noise surrounding Chris Jericho, and honestly, it feels like the wrestling world is holding its breath. For weeks, the idea of Jericho making a surprise return to WWE, possibly even on Monday Night Raw, has been floating around everywhere. Given his legendary status and history with WWE, it’s easy to see why fans jumped on the rumor so quickly. But based on the latest updates, things may not be as straightforward as many hoped.
It was widely believed that Jericho’s contract with All Elite Wrestling had expired at the end of December, opening the door for an immediate WWE comeback. However, that assumption has now been questioned. According to reports from Fightful Select, there’s still a real possibility that Jericho remains under the AEW umbrella, at least for now. One of the biggest clues is that he’s still listed on AEW’s official roster page. That might sound minor, but AEW is known for keeping that page accurate. In fact, several other talents were removed as soon as their deals ended, which makes Jericho’s continued presence stand out even more.

Jericho has been off AEW television since the spring of 2025, and no clear explanation was ever given about whether his contract was extended, paused, or quietly reworked. AEW officials were reportedly asked directly about his status, but no response was provided. That silence has only added fuel to the speculation rather than clearing it up.
On the WWE side, the situation appears just as murky. Despite earlier reports suggesting Jericho could show up on the January 5 episode of Raw, WWE sources indicated that he hadn’t been discussed creatively and wasn’t part of the plans they had seen. Of course, wrestling fans know that surprises happen all the time, but as of now, nothing concrete seems to be in motion behind the scenes.
Looking back, Jericho’s impact on AEW can’t be overstated. Since signing with the company in early 2019, he became its first world champion and played a massive role in giving the promotion instant credibility. Alongside names like Kenny Omega, Cody Rhodes, and Jon Moxley, Jericho helped elevate AEW from a bold idea into a legitimate major player. That said, it’s also been acknowledged that his on-screen act had started to feel stale, which reportedly contributed to his long absence from TV. His last AEW appearance, where he stormed out on his own stablemates, could still end up being his farewell moment, but that’s far from confirmed.
Adding another twist, WWE recently teased Jericho’s name online, which some insiders believe was done mainly to boost buzz and ticket sales for the first Raw of 2026. While there’s talk that he could appear in WWE sooner rather than later, possibly by the end of the month, nothing has been officially locked in.
For now, Chris Jericho remains wrestling’s biggest question mark. Whether he resurfaces in AEW, shocks the world in WWE, or keeps everyone guessing a little longer, the wait continues, and the speculation isn’t slowing down anytime soon.
