Kansas City Chiefs Acquire DeAndre Hopkins in Major Trade with Titans
In a blockbuster move, the Kansas City Chiefs have acquired star wide receiver DeAndre Hopkins from the Tennessee Titans, as reported by NFL Network Insider Ian Rapoport. The deal, finalized on Wednesday morning, involves a conditional fifth-round draft pick that could become a fourth-rounder, with Tennessee expected to cover part of Hopkins' remaining salary. This trade bolsters the Chiefs' receiver corps, which has been plagued by injuries, as they continue their quest for a third consecutive Super Bowl title.
Hopkins was a prime candidate to address the Chiefs' receiver issues. After a slow start to the season due to an injury, the 32-year-old wideout has shown that he still has the skills that made him a five-time Pro Bowler. Known for his ability to win one-on-one matchups and make contested catches, Hopkins brings a much-needed dynamic to Kansas City's offense, which has struggled to consistently generate big plays. The Chiefs initially attempted to sign Hopkins in 2023 after his release from the Arizona Cardinals, but were outbid by the Titans. Now, they’ve finally got their man.

Kansas City's receiving group has been in disarray this season due to several key injuries. Hollywood Brown was sidelined before the season started, Rashee Rice suffered a knee injury in Week 4, and JuJu Smith-Schuster was added to the list of injured players with a knee issue. The Chiefs, despite their 6-0 record, have relied heavily on tight end Travis Kelce and a makeshift receiver group that includes rookie Xavier Worthy and Mecole Hardman, among others. Backup tight end Noah Gray led the team in receiving yards in their Week 7 win against the San Francisco 49ers, underscoring the need for a more reliable pass-catching threat.
Hopkins' addition couldn’t have come at a better time. With only 173 yards and one touchdown on 15 receptions in six games this season, Hopkins hasn’t been in peak form, but his skill set remains valuable for Kansas City’s offense. The Titans’ passing game has struggled, with no player surpassing 200 receiving yards this season, making Hopkins expendable as Tennessee shifts focus. Kansas City, on the other hand, will benefit greatly from his experience and ability to stretch defenses.
This move should alleviate the pressure on the Chiefs' offense, allowing Kelce more space to operate and helping rookie Worthy develop without being the primary focus of defenses. With Hopkins now in the mix, the Chiefs are in an even stronger position as they continue their pursuit of a third consecutive championship. This trade could prove to be the key to keeping Kansas City’s offense firing on all cylinders as they push for another Super Bowl run.
