Kevin O'Connell Provides Update on Aaron Jones' Hip Injury, Status Uncertain for Week Seven
Minnesota Vikings head coach Kevin O'Connell offered an update on Aaron Jones, the team's star running back, following his recent hip injury. During the Vikings' victory over the New York Jets, Jones had to leave the game early due to the injury. Initially, the hope was that he would recover in time to play after the team's bye in Week 6. However, O'Connell has provided a more cautious outlook on Jones' condition during a recent press conference, noting that the running back is now considered "week-to-week."
While O'Connell confirmed that Jones likely avoided a long-term injury, he stopped short of guaranteeing that he would be available for the Vikings' Week 7 matchup against the Detroit Lions. The head coach emphasized that Jones will continue to receive treatment throughout this week, and his progress will be closely monitored. O'Connell hopes to have Jones back at practice soon, but whether he will be ready to face the Lions remains uncertain.

In O'Connell’s words, “All the early information we’ve got so far — it looks like we’ve avoided a long-term injury. I’d classify him as really week-to-week at this point.” He also added that the team would reassess Jones' condition leading into next week's preparations.
Jones has been a vital part of the Vikings' offense this season, with 71 carries for 350 yards and 17 catches for 167 yards over the first five games. His versatility has made him a dual-threat weapon, contributing both as a runner and a receiver. He has scored touchdowns in both roles, making his potential absence a significant concern for the Vikings.
As the Vikings approach their bye week, all eyes will be on Jones' recovery. While his injury is not expected to be season-ending, the uncertainty of his return timeline adds some pressure for the team. The Vikings will continue to monitor his condition, hoping that their star running back can make a timely return and remain a key player as the season progresses.
