Lisa Marie, the only daughter of rock legend Elvis Presley, faced an unimaginable tragedy when her son Benjamin took his own life at the age of 27. The memoir reveals that Lisa Marie found it difficult to part with him, so she chose to keep his body in her home, rather than bury him immediately. She couldn't decide whether to lay him to rest in Hawaii or Graceland, Elvis’s iconic estate where he is also buried. During this period, Benjamin’s body was preserved in a special room kept at 55 degrees Fahrenheit. Lisa Marie described how she became "used to him" being there, caring for him, even though she acknowledged that most people would find the situation terrifying.
In an incredibly poignant moment, Lisa Marie even invited a tattoo artist into her home, where Benjamin's body was kept, to have matching tattoos as a way of honoring him. Riley recounts how the artist asked if they had photos of Benjamin’s tattoos, and her mother responded, “No, but I can show you.” This surreal request led the artist to view Benjamin's body so he could replicate the tattoos accurately. Both Lisa Marie and Riley got tattoos that mirrored Benjamin’s own, marking a permanent reminder of their bond with him.
Eventually, Lisa Marie sensed that it was time to say goodbye, feeling as though Benjamin himself was telling her it was time for him to be laid to rest. In 2020, a funeral was held, and Benjamin was buried at Graceland, next to his famous grandfather. Lisa Marie later joined him there after her passing in 2023, closing a chapter in a story marked by overwhelming loss and the enduring strength of a mother’s love.
This candid glimpse into Lisa Marie Presley’s final years sheds light on the raw emotional turmoil she experienced and the deeply personal ways she coped with her grief. The memoir, completed by her daughter Riley, stands as a testament to a family’s enduring love amid tragic circumstances.
