Saints' Chris Olave Exits with Concussion in Tough Week 6 Game Against Buccaneers
The New Orleans Saints faced another setback during their Week 6 matchup against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers as standout wide receiver Chris Olave was forced to leave the game early due to an injury. The Saints, already dealing with numerous injuries to key players, including quarterback Derek Carr, saw Olave exit after suffering a concussion in the first quarter. This development adds to the team’s offensive struggles and raises concerns about their immediate future.
The incident occurred on Olave's first catch of the game, a short 5-yard reception from rookie quarterback Spencer Rattler. After securing the pass, Olave attempted to make a move toward the sideline but was met with a hard hit from Buccaneers cornerback Zyon McCollum. The impact caused Olave to fumble, and Tampa Bay's safety Antoine Winfield Jr. capitalized by returning the ball for a touchdown. Meanwhile, Olave remained on the field, visibly dazed and shaken after the hit.

Medical personnel from both the Buccaneers and Saints attended to Olave quickly, and although he was able to walk off the field under his own power, he was taken to the blue medical tent for evaluation. Shortly after, the Saints confirmed that Olave had suffered a concussion and ruled him out for the rest of the game. His availability for the Saints' upcoming Week 7 "Thursday Night Football" game remains uncertain.
The loss of Olave is significant for the Saints. He has been a reliable target, entering the game with 22 catches for 275 yards and a touchdown on the season. His absence leaves the Saints' receiving corps thin, with only four healthy wide receivers: Rashid Shaheed, Mason Tipton, Bub Means, and Cedrick Wilson Jr. Bub Means, a rookie, stepped up in Olave’s place, making his first career catch after the injury.
This injury compounds the Saints' offensive woes, with an already depleted lineup. The team will need to rely heavily on their remaining wideouts and tight ends Juwan Johnson and Foster Moreau as they prepare for their next game. With Olave’s status uncertain, the Saints will have to adapt quickly to avoid further setbacks in what has been a challenging season so far.
