Where is Leslie Abramson Now? The Iconic Lawyer from the Menendez Brothers' Trial
Leslie Abramson, a name that will forever be associated with one of the most notorious trials in American history—the Menendez brothers’ case—has largely faded from the public eye. Abramson became a household name in the 1990s as the fierce and controversial defense attorney who represented Lyle and Erik Menendez, the brothers convicted of killing their parents in 1989. Abramson's passionate defense strategy, which centered on claims of severe abuse the brothers allegedly suffered at the hands of their parents, captivated and polarized the nation. But as years have passed, many now wonder—where is she?
Abramson’s career in law began long before the Menendez trial. After graduating from UCLA and being admitted to the State Bar of California in 1970, she worked for the Los Angeles County Public Defender's office for six years before entering private practice. Known for defending high-profile cases, her reputation was already established when she took on the Menendez brothers' case. Before that, she had successfully defended Arnel Salvatierra, a 17-year-old accused of first-degree murder, securing a reduced conviction of voluntary manslaughter. Abramson was also briefly involved in the defense of music producer Phil Spector, though she resigned from the case for ethical reasons.

After the Menendez trial, Abramson continued practicing law but kept a relatively lower profile in the years that followed. Her legal license, as noted by the State Bar of California, is no longer active. Despite stepping back from the legal spotlight, she did publish a book, The Defense Is Ready: Life in the Trenches of Criminal Law , sharing her experiences from her most famous cases.
In recent media, notably in Ryan Murphy's Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story , Abramson is portrayed as a key figure in the courtroom drama. Yet, despite the renewed interest in the Menendez case, she has not publicly commented on the Netflix series or the ongoing discussion about the brothers’ conviction. Over 30 years later, Leslie Abramson seems to have chosen a quieter life, far removed from the intense spotlight that once surrounded her.
