DWP Announces 1.7% Increase in PIP and DLA Payments from April 2025

In a significant development for disability benefit claimants, the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) has confirmed that from April 7, 2025, payments for Personal Independence Payment (PIP) and Disability Living Allowance (DLA) will see an increase of 1.7%. This uprating is part of a wider set of changes to various government benefits following the recent Autumn Budget.

Currently, PIP recipients receive between £28.70 and £184.30 per week depending on the level of their claim. With the 1.7% increase, these amounts will rise to between £29.20 and £187.45 per week. For those who receive PIP every four weeks, the uplift will result in an additional £2.60 to £12.60 each period, depending on the level of support they qualify for. This means that, over the course of the year, claimants could receive anywhere between £116.80 and £749.80 every four weeks. The highest payment of £749.80 is for those who qualify for both the daily living and mobility components of PIP.

Attendance Allowance, which is given to those aged 65 and over who need help with personal care, will also see a 1.7% increase. The lower rate will rise to £73.90 per week, while the higher rate will reach £110.40 per week.

Carer's Allowance, which provides support for those who care for someone with significant health or disability needs, will also go up. The new weekly rate will be £83.30, which is £1.40 more than the current rate of £81.90. For those who are paid every four weeks, this works out to an increase of £5.60, bringing the total to £333.20 every period.

This increase will be welcomed by those who rely on these essential benefits to cover the extra costs associated with living with a disability or caring for a loved one. It is part of the government’s ongoing efforts to provide more financial support to vulnerable groups. However, it’s important to remember that while this increase is significant, it still falls behind inflation rates in recent years. Many disability advocates continue to push for higher rates to ensure claimants are not left behind as the cost of living rises.

For those receiving PIP or DLA, it is advised to check the new rates to understand the exact impact on individual claims. The increase will automatically apply to most recipients, so there will be no need to take action unless there are specific circumstances affecting your claim. As always, it’s a good idea to stay updated on any further changes or announcements from the DWP, particularly as these benefits can sometimes be adjusted beyond the official uprating.

This increase in PIP, DLA, and other disability-related benefits is a positive step, providing crucial financial relief to individuals and families across the UK.
