Farnborough College Goes into Lockdown Following Bomb Threat Alert
On November 19, 2024, Farnborough 6th Form College in Hampshire was placed into lockdown following advice from Hampshire Police. The lockdown, which started around 11:45 AM, was a precautionary measure triggered by reports from a member of the public concerning a bomb threat. Police officers immediately responded, arriving on-site to ensure the safety of students and staff.
The college community was informed of the situation through an official statement, which confirmed that the lockdown was a direct result of the police's guidance. The notice advised the public not to contact the college as the situation unfolded. Initially, the lockdown was temporarily lifted at around 1:00 PM, but was reinstated just a short time later. After an extensive investigation and further police presence, the lockdown was lifted for good at approximately 1:45 PM. The situation was deemed under control, with no explosive devices found and no injuries reported.

During the lockdown, students were advised to remain inside the campus, with some being instructed to switch off their phones as a precautionary measure. At the same time, local schools in the area also went into lockdown as a response to the initial threat. Students were reassured by authorities that there was no longer any immediate danger after a suspect, a 40-year-old man from Farnborough, was arrested on suspicion of making the bomb threat. He was taken into police custody, though no bombs were discovered at any of the locations involved.
Farnborough 6th Form College later posted a statement online, confirming that mock exams scheduled for the afternoon would be cancelled, with students directed to attend their lessons instead. It was also confirmed that the college would resume normal operations for the rest of the day.
Although the lockdown was unsettling for students and staff, authorities acted swiftly and efficiently, preventing any harm from occurring. Police investigations are continuing as they work to understand the full details surrounding the threat. The incident serves as a reminder of the importance of remaining vigilant and prepared in the face of unexpected safety concerns.
