Jonathan Toews Embarks on a Healing Journey in India
Former Chicago Blackhawks captain Jonathan Toews has opened up about his recent quest for healing and personal transformation. After stepping away from hockey in 2023 to focus on his health, Toews revealed via Instagram that he spent five weeks in India undergoing an ancient Ayurvedic detox treatment called Panchakarma. This profound experience has become a turning point in his ongoing battle with Chronic Inflammatory Response Syndrome (CIRS) and the lingering effects of long COVID.
Toews shared that his journey over the past five years has been one of persistent challenges, interspersed with moments of hope. While navigating a variety of treatments and working with numerous specialists, he often questioned if meaningful improvement was possible. His recent experience with Ayurveda, a 5,000-year-old holistic healing system from India, has been a revelation. Ayurveda views the body as an interconnected ecosystem influenced by diet, emotions, thoughts, and energy. Panchakarma, the detoxification protocol he undertook, aims to cleanse the body of deep-seated toxins, restoring balance and vitality.

Reflecting on his time in India, Toews described how the Ayurvedic philosophy has redefined his understanding of health. The treatment not only introduced him to dietary practices tailored to his unique body type but also deepened his connection with his inner self and the natural world. By embracing simplicity, stillness, and alignment with nature's rhythms, Toews feels he is finally trending toward recovery.
During his illustrious NHL career, Toews achieved greatness as a three-time Stanley Cup champion and one of the league's most respected leaders. However, his health struggles sidelined him for much of the 2020-21 season and reduced his participation in the 2022-23 season to 53 games. Despite these setbacks, he remains a free agent, leaving his future in hockey open while prioritizing his well-being.
Toews’ candid update offers inspiration, highlighting resilience and the power of ancient wisdom in modern healing. His story underscores the importance of self-discovery and responsibility in facing life’s challenges. Fans and fellow athletes alike can draw encouragement from Toews' determination to rediscover health and balance on his unique path.
