Khamenei Claims Hamas and Hezbollah Victory Marks Israel's Defeat
Iran's Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, recently stated that the ongoing resistance of Hamas and Hezbollah in Gaza and Lebanon signifies a major defeat for Israel. Speaking at a gathering of the Assembly of Experts in Tehran, Khamenei emphasized that Israel's failure to uproot Hamas and Hezbollah over the decades proved that it has not only failed militarily but also exposed its true nature to the world. The Iranian leader criticized Israel for what he described as its brutal tactics, including the killing of Palestinian leaders, which ultimately backfired, with Hamas continuing its fight against Israel.
Khamenei highlighted how Hezbollah, a group that has been resisting Israeli occupation for nearly four decades, has grown stronger and more powerful despite losing key leaders, including its head, Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah. He noted that Hezbollah's transformation from a small resistance group to a massive force capable of challenging Israel's might is a testament to its enduring power. Despite some claims inside Lebanon that Hezbollah has weakened due to heavy casualties, Khamenei asserted that the group is still strong and determined, a force Israel cannot overcome.

These remarks come at a time when tensions between Iran and Israel are high. Israel’s military operations against Palestinian groups, including Hamas, and its recent air raids on Iranian territory have heightened the risk of further escalation. Khamenei warned that the Iranian response to Israel's actions would be powerful, including what he called a “tooth-crushing response” to Israel’s attacks on Iranian provinces. Iran has made it clear that it stands ready to defend itself and its allies, including Hezbollah, should Israel continue its aggression.
While Israel and its allies, particularly the United States, continue to bolster their military presence in the region, Iran has vowed to retaliate. The U.S. has increased its military support to Israel by sending advanced missile defense systems, bombers, and warships, but Iran's leadership remains defiant, focusing on its long-term strategy of resistance. According to Khamenei, the resilience of groups like Hamas and Hezbollah proves that Israel's military power cannot quell the aspirations of the Palestinian people or its enemies in the region.
The Iranian government’s rhetoric reflects its longstanding support for Palestinian resistance movements and Hezbollah, asserting that their persistence is a victory for the broader anti-Israel movement. With Israel unable to defeat these groups, Iran frames the situation as a sign that Israel's regional influence is diminishing, and it will continue to face growing challenges from these powerful resistance movements.
The outcome of this ongoing conflict remains uncertain, but the narrative from Tehran is clear: the resistance led by groups like Hamas and Hezbollah has already dealt a significant blow to Israel's ambitions in the region.
