Boyz II Men Triumph onThe Masked Singer: From Doubt to Golden Glory
During the thrilling finale of The Masked Singer Season 12, Boyz II Men made history as the first band to ever win the coveted Golden Mask trophy. Their journey, however, was filled with unexpected twists, self-doubt, and a surprising amount of humor. Wanyá Morris, Nathan Morris, and Shawn Stockman initially approached the show with skepticism, believing their unmistakable voices would lead to an early exit. Little did they know, they would captivate audiences and make their mark in a unique way.

Wanyá shared with Us Weekly that their participation stemmed more from persistence than passion. “They called us a couple of times, and we finally thought, ‘Let’s just get it over with so they’ll stop calling,’” he joked. The trio, known for their soulful harmonies, didn’t expect to go far, much less win. In fact, they hoped for an early elimination so they could return home. “We thought we’d either be guessed off or people wouldn’t like our voices, so we’d get kicked off,” Nathan candidly added.
However, as soon as they stepped into the elaborate Buffalo costumes, their mindset shifted. “The energy on set was incredible,” Wanyá explained. “Once we were there, we thought, ‘Why not give it our all?’ And then we decided, ‘Let’s win this thing.’” Performing iconic hits that showcased their versatility, the group began to enjoy the competition. Shawn noted how the anonymity of the costumes allowed them to explore a different side of themselves. “It gave people a glimpse of the music we’ve loved since we were kids, songs that shaped us.”
The grueling process wasn’t without its challenges. Enduring the heat and physical demands of performing in heavy suits pushed them to their limits. “We overcame dehydration and anxiety to sing our hearts out,” Wanyá revealed. The trio found the experience unexpectedly emotional, drawing closer together as they rediscovered their passion for performing. “It reminded us why we started this journey over 30 years ago,” Shawn said.
Their victory was not just a personal triumph but a reintroduction of Boyz II Men’s timeless talent to new audiences. With a packed tour schedule for the upcoming year, the group is as energized as ever. “As long as we’re relevant to each other, we’ll keep doing what we love,” Nathan concluded. For Boyz II Men, the journey on The Masked Singer wasn’t just about winning a trophy; it was about rediscovering their brotherhood and the music that binds them.
