Celtic's Dominance Continues as They Crush Hibernian 3-0 to Extend Lead in Premiership
Celtic extended their lead at the top of the Scottish Premiership with a commanding 3-0 win over Hibernian at Celtic Park, as the visitors squandered early opportunities and ultimately fell back to the bottom of the league table. Despite a promising start from Hibs, the Hoops capitalized on their chances, sealing the victory and moving nine points clear of second-placed Aberdeen.
The game started with a flurry of activity from Hibernian, who had two excellent opportunities to take the lead early. Max Kucharevic found himself in a one-on-one situation but shot straight at Celtic's goalkeeper Kasper Schmeichel, who was also called into action moments later to keep out Nicky Cadden's powerful shot from the edge of the box. These missed chances would prove costly as Celtic quickly found their rhythm.
Celtic took the lead in the sixth minute when Arne Engels slotted the ball past Hibs keeper Jamie Smith following a precise cross from Alistair Johnston. The Hoops nearly doubled their lead shortly after when Luke McCowan hit the crossbar with a powerful shot, but it wasn’t long before Hibs were handed another setback. Joe Newell, under pressure, fired a shot high over the bar, and just before the break, Newell's unfortunate own goal in the 52nd minute gave Celtic a 2-0 advantage. A deflected header from Adam Idah off a McCowan corner hit Newell, who turned it into his own net.

Despite a few more chances from Hibs, Celtic's defense remained resolute, and goalkeeper Kasper Schmeichel was at his best, keeping the scoreline intact with several key saves. One standout moment came when Schmeichel denied Elie Youan in a one-on-one situation. As the match progressed, Hibs grew increasingly frustrated, unable to convert their chances into goals.
Celtic’s third came late in the game when Kyogo Furuhashi, who came off the bench in the second half, calmly lifted the ball over Smith to wrap up the victory. With this win, Celtic not only claimed all three points but also extended their unbeaten run to 40 domestic matches, a remarkable feat that highlights their dominance in Scottish football this season.
Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers praised the mental toughness of his side, particularly in light of some defensive lapses that allowed Hibs a few chances. Rodgers emphasized the importance of Schmeichel’s performance, noting that despite not being at their best defensively, the team’s resilience and ability to take chances when needed stood out.
For Hibs, manager David Gray acknowledged his team's attacking intent but expressed frustration at their inability to convert chances. He pointed to the fine performance of Celtic's goalkeeper, who kept the visitors at bay. Gray was quick to point out that the result reflected Hibs' ongoing struggles to finish opportunities, something that has defined their season so far.
Overall, while Celtic took the points with a clinical display, Hibs can hold their heads high knowing they fought hard, even if their finishing let them down. This win sees Celtic in a commanding position as they continue to assert their dominance in the Premiership title race.
