Real Madrid delivered a commanding performance on December 7, 2024, as they cruised to a 3-0 victory over Girona at the Estadi Municipal de Montilivi in La Liga. This result saw Jude Bellingham and Kylian Mbappé continue their impressive form for Los Blancos, with both players contributing to a dominant win that puts them just two points behind league leaders Barcelona.

Bellingham opened the scoring in the 36th minute, continuing his remarkable run of form. The England international, who has found the net in every La Liga match over the past month, took advantage of a bouncing ball to fire a 16-yard shot past Girona's goalkeeper. His goal marked his fifth consecutive strike in La Liga, making him the first Real Madrid player to achieve such a feat since Karim Benzema in 2021.

The second half saw more magic from the visitors. Bellingham turned provider when he set up Arda Güler, whose calm finish doubled Real Madrid’s lead in the 55th minute. Despite a knock that forced Bellingham off the field just after the hour mark, the momentum stayed with the visitors.

Mbappé, ever the clinical striker, wrapped up the win in the 62nd minute. The French forward slotted home his ninth La Liga goal after a perfectly timed assist from Luka Modrić. This goal was also significant for Mbappé, marking his 200th career league goal, adding to his tally from previous stints at Monaco and Paris Saint-Germain.

Real Madrid’s victory keeps them firmly in the title hunt, with the defending champions now only two points behind Barcelona, who drew 2-2 with Real Betis on the same day. With a game in hand, Madrid remains a serious contender for the top spot as they continue their pursuit of another La Liga crown.

Head coach Carlo Ancelotti expressed confidence in Bellingham’s fitness despite his early departure, stating that the 21-year-old will be ready for Real Madrid’s upcoming Champions League clash with Atalanta. The Italian manager was pleased with his team’s performance, particularly in attack, as Real Madrid dominated possession with 58.3% and were clinical in front of goal, registering seven shots on target from 10 attempts.

Girona, on the other hand, struggled to break down Real Madrid’s defense. The hosts registered only four shots on target from 10 attempts, unable to find a way past Thibaut Courtois in goal. Girona’s performance was marred by poor finishing and a yellow card for Portu in the dying moments of the match.

With this win, Real Madrid moves up to second place in La Liga with 36 points, while Girona stays in eighth with 22 points. The defending champions are looking strong, and with key players like Bellingham and Mbappé in top form, they will remain a force to reckon with in both domestic and European competitions.
