Dolphins Edge Jets 32-26 in Overtime Thriller
In an intense battle that stretched into overtime, the Miami Dolphins emerged victorious over the New York Jets, winning 32-26 and keeping their playoff hopes alive. The Dolphins found themselves in a tense situation after the Jets managed to erase an eight-point lead in the fourth quarter. But Miami's resilience, highlighted by a crucial kickoff return and clutch plays in overtime, secured the much-needed win.
The game was a rollercoaster of emotions for both teams. With just under a minute left in regulation, the Jets had a 26-23 lead thanks to a 42-yard field goal by Anders Carlson. However, Malik Washington's 45-yard kickoff return set the Dolphins up in prime field position at the Jets' 46-yard line. Miami quickly moved the ball downfield, setting up Jason Sanders for a 52-yard field goal to tie the game with just seven seconds remaining.
When overtime began, the Dolphins won the coin toss and quickly showed their offensive might. Tua Tagovailoa, who finished the game with an impressive 331 yards and two touchdowns, connected with tight end Jonnu Smith for a 10-yard touchdown on the Dolphins' opening drive of overtime. This scoring drive capped an impressive 70-yard journey, giving Miami a dramatic 32-26 victory.

The Dolphins' success in overtime came thanks to Tagovailoa's precision passing. He completed six consecutive throws in overtime and showed excellent chemistry with his receivers, especially with Tyreek Hill and Jaylen Waddle. Hill had 10 catches for 115 yards, including a touchdown, while Waddle added nine catches for 99 yards. Together, they took advantage of a Jets defense that was missing key players, notably cornerback Sauce Gardner.
On the other side, Jets quarterback Aaron Rodgers had his best performance of the season, throwing for 339 yards and a touchdown. It marked his first 300-yard passing game in nearly three years, snapping a long drought that had plagued him since 2021. Rodgers connected with his top receivers, Garrett Wilson and Davante Adams, who each had over 100 yards receiving. Despite his efforts, it wasn't enough to prevent the Jets from slipping to a 3-10 record, officially eliminating them from playoff contention.
The loss was especially bitter for the Jets, who had been in control for much of the game. They scored on their first five possessions and seemed poised to upset the Dolphins. But after a strong third quarter, in which their defense limited Miami’s scoring opportunities, the Jets couldn't hold on in the final moments. Their fourth-quarter offense stalled, and Miami capitalized on critical mistakes.
For the Dolphins, this victory is vital as they fight to keep their postseason hopes alive. With a 6-7 record, they now turn their attention to next week's matchup in Houston. On the flip side, the Jets, who have struggled all season, now have nothing but the draft to focus on as they prepare for their Week 15 game in Jacksonville.
In the end, this game highlighted both the high stakes and drama of NFL football, with Miami clutching the victory and extending their playoff push while leaving the Jets to deal with yet another crushing defeat.
