Dramatic Confrontation at Trump Assassination Attempt Hearing Between Rep. Pat Fallon and Secret Service Director
In a fiery exchange during a congressional hearing on December 5, 2024, Rep. Pat Fallon (R-Texas) and Secret Service Acting Director Ronald Rowe clashed over the agency’s handling of security during multiple assassination attempts against former President Donald Trump. The hearing, which was part of a task force investigation into two failed assassination plots, escalated into a shouting match after Fallon accused Rowe of a publicity stunt during a 9/11 memorial ceremony.
Fallon, who has been critical of the Secret Service’s handling of Trump’s security, displayed a photo from the 2024 9/11 commemoration where Rowe was visible standing behind President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris. The Texas lawmaker pointed out that Rowe, as Special Agent in Charge of Biden’s detail, should have been positioned close enough to be in the frame of the photo, questioning his role in the security detail. Fallon’s comments were directed at Rowe’s visibility in the photo, implying that the director was strategically placed to be seen in the background during a high-profile event.

The situation quickly spiraled out of control when Rowe, visibly frustrated, retorted that the agents responsible for the security detail were simply out of view of the camera. In a passionate defense, Rowe reminded Fallon that 9/11 was a solemn occasion, a day to remember the over 3,000 lives lost, and he personally had been on the ground during the aftermath of the World Trade Center attack. “I actually responded to Ground Zero,” Rowe stated, raising his voice in response to Fallon’s line of questioning. "That is the day where we remember more than 3,000 people that died on 9/11!”
Despite Rowe’s emotional response, Fallon wasn’t deterred. He interrupted, pressing Rowe with the same question about his role that day. The confrontation escalated as Rowe angrily accused Fallon of politicizing the tragedy, shouting, “Do not invoke 9/11 for political purposes!” Fallon, in return, accused Rowe of using the event as a platform for personal gain, suggesting that Rowe was auditioning to keep his post as the acting director.
The clash occurred as the committee was reviewing the failure of security measures that allowed two assassination attempts on Trump to take place in 2024. One of these incidents, the July 13 shooting at a rally in Butler, Pennsylvania, left Trump injured and a supporter dead. Rowe admitted to lapses in security during these incidents and promised that changes would be made within the agency to prevent such breaches in the future.
The shouting match reached a boiling point when Rowe accused Fallon of trying to “bully” him, while Fallon fired back, accusing Rowe of endangering the lives of both President Biden and Vice President Harris by placing agents in vulnerable positions. As the committee chairman attempted to restore order, the two men continued to spar, each maintaining their positions amid a tense atmosphere.
While the exchange was undoubtedly heated, it shed light on the deep divisions between those in charge of protecting the nation's leaders and the lawmakers who hold them accountable. The incident also raised serious questions about the Secret Service’s ability to protect high-profile targets amidst such public scrutiny.
