Former Kansas Detective Roger Golubski Dies Before Long-Awaited Trial Begins
Roger Golubski, a former Kansas City police detective, was found dead at the age of 71 just hours before his highly anticipated federal civil rights trial was set to begin. The trial, which was scheduled to start on the morning of December 2, 2024, was focused on serious charges including the kidnapping and rape of two women. The investigation had uncovered a pattern of abuse by Golubski, who allegedly used his position of authority as a law enforcement officer to exploit vulnerable Black women over several decades. His death, believed to be a suicide, has left many shaken, particularly the victims and the communities affected by his alleged actions.
Golubski’s body was discovered in his home after he failed to appear for jury selection in Topeka, Kansas. His defense attorney, Chris Joseph, told the court that Golubski had been deeply troubled by the media coverage surrounding his case, though he did not provide further details. In 2022, federal authorities brought two indictments against Golubski. One charge involved his role in a sex trafficking operation with a drug kingpin, while the other accused him of violating civil rights through sexual violence.
