Fort Eisenhower Lockdown Ends After 'Active Threat' Incident
On the morning of December 14, 2024, Fort Eisenhower in Georgia was placed on lockdown due to an active threat situation. The lockdown was initiated around 9 a.m., as the military installation issued an urgent alert instructing everyone on the base to take immediate safety measures. The message, posted on Fort Eisenhower’s official social media pages, included a stern warning: "LOCK DOWN! LOCK DOWN! EXECUTE LOCK DOWN PROCEDURES ON THE INSTALLATION IMMEDIATELY! IF YOU ARE IN DANGER, TAKE APPROPRIATE ACTION."
Although specific details about the incident were not immediately shared, there was widespread speculation that the threat may have been linked to reports of an active shooter. This could not be confirmed, but local law enforcement agencies began searching for a white Toyota Camry with a Tennessee license plate. The car was reportedly last seen near mile marker 145 on I-20 heading towards South Carolina. This car was believed to be associated with a suspected murder on Fort Gordon earlier that day. Notably, Fort Gordon was the former name of Fort Eisenhower, which may have contributed to some confusion.

During the lockdown, local law enforcement was seen coordinating efforts, with emergency vehicles, including a firetruck and medical unit, moving towards the installation’s Gate 6. However, it remained unclear whether these responses were directly linked to the ongoing situation.
After a tense hour, Fort Eisenhower lifted the lockdown at approximately 9:35 a.m., signaling that the "dangerous event" had passed. The installation’s social media post reassured personnel that they could resume normal operations, with the situation no longer posing an immediate threat. The post concluded with a brief statement from a spokeswoman, who confirmed that an official statement would be forthcoming.
The lockdown had an impact on scheduled events, as the installation had planned a special Army-Navy football celebration. The festivities, including a JROTC flag football game and a picnic, were unfortunately canceled as a result of the lockdown.
As the situation developed, the community was left with many questions, especially regarding the nature of the threat. Though the lockdown has ended, Fort Eisenhower remains a key focus of local law enforcement and military investigations as they continue to piece together the details surrounding this unsettling event.
